Robert W. Chesson

Robert W. Chesson , Esq. is the managing partner at Chesson & Schweickert LLC, a boutique law firm focusing exclusively on landlord and property management representation. Robert has handled thousands of summary process matters and countless other disputes between landlords and tenants, including low-income public housing and large commercial lease litigation alike. Chesson & Schweickert currently represents landlords who manage more than 6,000 residential units and more than one million square feet of commercial space.

Chesson & Schweickert recently argued and won a case at the Connecticut Appellate Court that will make handling problem tenants in Connecticut a bit easier for landlords. The court ruled, in New Haven Housing Authority v. Dawn Martin, that a tenant’s right to remedy breaches of the lease is limited to those items which can be so remedied by repair or payment of damages. The court further ruled that if a tenant wishes to claim it remedied a breach of lease, it must plead remedy as a special defense and thus prove the remedy in court.

Robert graduated with honors from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science with a minor in Russian language. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Monterey (CG-61), as the Communications Officer. After leaving the Navy, he spent several years with Time-Warner and then made his way to The University of Connecticut School of Law, where he also graduated with honors. He began practicing law in Stamford and opened his office on the Milford Green in 2001.

He is a member of numerous American and Connecticut Bar Associations and currently sits as President of the Milford Bar Association. Robert also sits on the Milford Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He lives in Milford with his wife and three children.
